The Church of Peace, Love and Understanding ("CPLU," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information of those who visit cplu.online (the "Site") or make a donation to CPLU. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices available to you. This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
information you provide directly, such as your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number, when you make a donation, sign up for communications, or contact us;
donation and transaction details, such as the amount, date, and payment method type, provided to us by our third-party payment processors;
information collected automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, through cookies and similar technologies; and
information from third parties, such as confirmation and transaction data provided by our payment processors.
CPLU does not collect or store your full payment card number, bank account number, or other sensitive payment credentials; these are collected and securely processed directly by our third-party payment processors.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
process and acknowledge your donations, including issuing tax receipts;
respond to your questions, comments, or requests;
send updates, newsletters, or other communications where you have consented to receive them;
maintain the security, integrity, and proper functioning of the Site;
comply with applicable law, including IRS recordkeeping requirements for charitable contributions; and
improve the content and performance of the Site.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
payment processors, including Stripe and Donorbox, solely to process and record donations;
service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as website hosting, email delivery, and analytics, and who are contractually obligated to protect your information;
government authorities or other third parties, where required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of CPLU or others; and
a successor entity, in the event of a merger, reorganization, or similar transaction involving CPLU.
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Site may use cookies and similar technologies, such as [Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the Site and to improve its functionality. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Site.
5. Data Retention
We retain donor and transaction information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to comply with IRS recordkeeping requirements for charitable contributions, which generally call for retaining donation records for a minimum of three years. We retain other personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
7. Your Choices
You may opt out of receiving email communications from us at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in those communications or by contacting us directly. Opting out of communications does not affect our retention of donation or transaction records as described above.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information under applicable state law. To make such a request, please contact us using the information below, and we will respond as required by law.
Note on the CCPA: The California Consumer Privacy Act applies to for-profit businesses that meet certain revenue or data-processing thresholds. As a nonprofit organization that is not controlled by, and does not share branding with, a for-profit business, CPLU generally falls outside the CCPA's scope. CPLU nonetheless aims to honor reasonable privacy requests from all visitors and donors.

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will take steps to delete it. This is consistent with the Minimum Age provision of our Terms of Service.
10. Third-Party Links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be effective upon posting to the Site with an updated "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Site following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
